County reports recurring water-system failures; surge suppressor and electrical fixes planned

County Manager Thomas Weaver and water-department staff briefed the commission and held a Sept. 22 work session update about recurring problems with county water infrastructure, including continued failures at the Fire Tower Road tank and chronic electrical issues at well No. 3.
At the Sept. 2 meeting the manager said the Fire Tower Road tank had gone out again and staff called Hammock Wells to respond quickly; they suspect an electrical issue rather than repeated lightning strikes and are evaluating grounding, surge suppression and HVAC for computer components. At the Sept. 22 work session staff reported well No. 3 has been a persistent problem, Burgamy Electric has performed several electrical repairs, and a surge-suppression system being produced in Texas is expected to arrive in about 20 days.
Why it matters: Repeated failures at a water tank and well can affect service reliability for residents and indicate equipment or grounding problems that require capital repair or replacement decisions. The manager said some items are beyond local maintenance and may require electrical contractors or replacement parts.
Next steps: Staff are pursuing electrical contractors, surge suppression installation and, if needed, line replacement or different pumping equipment. The manager said the county has hired new water-department staff to assist with repairs and will report back when the surge-suppression unit arrives and installation is complete.
