Pacific County updates facility-use application amid courthouse security concerns

Pacific County commissioners on May 27 adopted Resolution No. 2025-035 to revise the county’s facility-use application process, a change county staff said was prompted by ongoing courthouse security and liability concerns.

“This update is being presented, due to ongoing security and liability concerns with the courthouse,” said the presenter to the board, explaining that added weekday courthouse security has created a different access profile on weekends and requires a separate application and process for weekend events. The presenter said the revision would supersede Resolution No. 2016-032 and align county practice with judge-required security plans.

Board members acknowledged the revisions were unfortunate but said they were necessary for staff and public safety. The chair noted the intention is not to bar public access but to make security arrangements practicable for a building of the courthouse’s age and design.

The board approved the resolution by voice vote and directed staff to complete implementation steps. No changes to the schedule or public events were announced at the meeting; the update affects how future facility-use requests for courthouse spaces will be processed.
