Mendon council votes to deny Eugene Olsen annexation after fire-flow study

Dursteler told the council that fire flow can vary by about 200 gallons per minute and recommended the council not approve the annexation because the city “does not have the capacity to push the water that far north to serve the Eugene Olsen property.”
Following Dursteler’s recommendation, Councilmember Brian Myers moved to not approve the annexation; Councilmember Amy Garbe seconded the motion. The councilmembers present — Myers, Garbe, Watkins, Heers and Jepsen — voted aye and the motion passed.
The council’s action was procedural: it rejected the annexation request based on the city’s current infrastructure capacity. No alternate mitigation or staged annexation plan was recorded in the minutes at the time of the vote. The applicant joined by Zoom but arrived after the vote had already been taken, according to the minutes.
