Calhoun County authorizes routine agreements, extends liability coverage and appoints members; new tourism director introduced

The Calhoun County Commission on Dec. 18 approved a slate of routine administrative agreements and appointments, and heard an introduction from the county's new tourism director.
County Administrator Jonathan Gaddy presented an agreement to keep God’s Covenant Ministry as a polling location for Precinct No. Beat 15, Box 9; Commissioner Wilson moved and Commissioner Patterson seconded authorization for the chairman to sign the agreement once it was in final form. The motion passed unanimously.
Gaddy also presented a resolution to extend the county’s participation in the ACCA Liability Fund for three years; Commissioners approved the three-year extension by unanimous voice vote.
The commission authorized a $5,000 annual software-support agreement with DataWorks for the sheriff’s office, and authorized an agreement between Cremation Services of East Alabama and the county coroner to provide transportation to state facilities; motions to authorize the chairman to sign these agreements carried unanimously.
The commission also authorized acceptance of Shadow Grass Phase 2 subdivision by motion and unanimous vote.
Gaddy announced two at-large appointment terms to the Community Punishment & Corrections Authority expiring Dec. 31, 2025. Commissioners appointed Commissioner Danny Shears to serve a one-year at-large term beginning Jan. 1, 2026, and appointed Amanda Young to serve another one-year at-large term effective Jan. 1, 2026; both motions passed unanimously.
During public introductions, Jakob Williamson, director of public affairs for the Chamber, presented Cher Dulaney as the newly appointed tourism director; Dulaney said she is a lifelong county resident and expressed enthusiasm for promoting local attractions. Underwriter Baker Ellis also introduced himself to the Commission.
The meeting adjourned at 10:27 a.m.; the next meeting is scheduled for Jan. 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
