Calhoun County proclaims January Human Trafficking Prevention Month

Jessica Smith thanked the Commission “that increased awareness of this issue makes our communities safer.” Sheriff Hurst also acknowledged ongoing trafficking challenges in Calhoun County and expressed appreciation for collaborative efforts among law enforcement and nonprofit partners.
The proclamation does not impose new policy but is intended to raise public awareness and recognize community organizations' efforts. The Commission took the action as part of routine recognitions during its Jan. 8 meeting; no formal vote on policy followed the proclamation.
The Commission adjourned at 10:23 a.m.; the next scheduled meeting is Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
