Sanilac County approves February charges, budget amendments, hiring authorization, sheriff training and an abatement survey

Separately, the board approved budget amendments increasing several revenue lines tied to inspection services for multiple solar projects (Semco $175; Watertown Solar $3,012.50; Peatville $2,356.25; Deck/DTE Solar $3,961.25; Squan $525) with corresponding contractual engineering expense adjustments.
Personnel and training: The board authorized posting and filling the Juvenile Register position at paygrade 7. The sheriff’s office was authorized to send Derek Osborne, a corrections deputy, and one new hire to the Oakland Community College Police Academy (March 5–July 30, 2026) at a cost of $5,850 per sponsored recruit and a housing voucher of $3,500 for Derek Osborne; the total cost was capped at $15,200. The minutes state the county will seek reimbursement from the MCOLES Public Safety Academy Assistance Grant Program if available; if not, funding will come from the sheriff’s office budget.
Property abatement: The board awarded AKT Peerless Environmental Services a contract not to exceed $2,400 to perform an abatement survey and clearance exams for a home at 69 Lexington Street in Sandusky. The work will be funded from the county land bank budget and reimbursed by the State Land Bank Grant.
