Madison County Board swears in newly elected members at reorganizational meeting

The Madison County Board opened its reorganizational meeting Dec. 5, 2022, in Edwardsville, where the county clerk read the published notice and administered the oath of office to newly elected board members.

The clerk read the meeting call, noting the meeting was scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Central and listed the purpose: seating new board members, electing a chairperson pro tem and vice chairperson pro tem, approving committee assignments and setting the board meeting schedule. The clerk said the certificate of publication from the Edwardsville Intelligencer and certificates of election were available for review.

During the oath sequence the clerk instructed members to "raise your right hand, and repeat after me," and led the pledge to support the constitutions of the United States and the state of Illinois. Afterward the clerk told members to sign their oaths for collection at the end of the meeting.

The clerk conducted a roll call, reading member names and receiving responses of "here" or "present" from the dais. The roll call included names read aloud such as Fred Michael, Stacy Pace, Bill Meyer, Bobby Ross, Nick Madison and others; the clerk confirmed a quorum was present and asked any board members who had not signed in to do so.

The meeting then moved to the next agenda item: the election of the Madison County chairperson pro tem.
