Cloud County commissioners approve stop sign, appointments and expense list; reclassify employee
Summary
At its June 2 meeting the Cloud County Board unanimously approved a stop sign at N 60th and Vine Roads, proclaimed June as Elder Abuse Awareness Month, appointed members to the 12th Judicial District Juvenile/Community Corrections Advisory Board, reclassified an employee and approved expenses totaling $405,625.92.
The Cloud County Board of Commissioners convened June 2 and approved several routine and operational items, including a traffic-control resolution, personnel actions, board appointments and county expenses.
On a motion by Commissioner Dannie Kearn, seconded by Commissioner Ron Copple, the board unanimously approved Resolution 2025-14 to install stop signs at the northeast and southwest corners of the intersection of N 60th and Vine Roads (Secs. 7 T-5 R-4-W and 12 T-5 R-5-W).
The board recognized the termination of Crockett Stortz effective May 30, 2025, and on a separate unanimous motion proclaimed June 2025 as Elder Abuse Awareness Month after Julie Willoughby of DVACK read the proclamation urging citizens "to work together to help protect elder adults from abuse, neglect, and exploitation because it is imperative that we refuse to tolerate the indignity of Elder Abuse."
The board approved reclassification of Joy Fenske from Office to Clerk to Corrections Officer II (H9) effective June 2 and approved three personnel evaluations. Jail Administrator Matt Nevins and Sheriff Ken Davis reported equipment repairs, a successful systems test by Johnson Control, plans to upgrade lighting to LED with a 10-year warranty, and a transfer of $6,737.20 from the Inmate Welfare account to the Equipment Reserve fund to accumulate for a whole-body scanner.
Commissioner Ron Copple moved, and Commissioner Kearn seconded, approval of Resolution 2025-13 appointing Andrew Grabon (Beloit City Council Representative), Mark Rothfuss (Mental Health Representative), Chris Springer (Police Representative), Regine Thompson (Belleville City Commissioners Representative), Robert Walsh (Prosecution Representative) and Scott Zabokrtsky (Washington County Commissioners Representative) to the 12th Judicial District Juvenile/Community Corrections Advisory Board for terms July 1, 2025–June 30, 2027.
The board approved expenses totaling $405,625.92 across multiple funds and approved the May 27 and May 30, 2025 minutes. Sales tax receipts reported on May 27 totaled $93,587.93, up from $87,872.78 the prior year. The meeting adjourned at 11:53 a.m.
