Cloud County commissioners hold executive-session interviews for Emergency Preparedness candidates

The Cloud County Board of Commissioners met in a special session at 9:30 a.m. May 30 in the commissioners’ room at 811 Washington in Concordia and moved into executive sessions to interview applicants for an Emergency Preparedness position.
Chairman Michael Cleveland presided. On motions made by Commissioner Ron Copple and seconded by Commissioner Dannie Kearn, the board by unanimous vote approved a 30-minute executive session under the personnel exception to interview Applicant One for the Emergency Preparedness position, with Dickinson County Emergency Preparedness Director Chancy Smith included. The minutes record that open session was to resume at 10:01 a.m.
The board then approved, again on a motion by Copple seconded by Kearn and by unanimous vote, a 15-minute extension to continue the interview under the same personnel exception; open session was to resume at 10:18 a.m. Later the board approved a separate 30-minute executive session, by the same motion/second pattern and unanimous vote, to interview Applicant Two for the Emergency Preparedness position with Director Chancy Smith present; open session was scheduled to resume at 10:53 a.m.
No hiring decision or vote on appointment is recorded in the minutes. The special session was adjourned at 11:14 a.m. on a motion by Copple, seconded by Kearn, with all members voting in favor. The minutes state the board will meet next on Monday, June 2, 2025.
