The Duplin County Schools board approved routine business and personnel actions during its Sept. 3 meeting, including the consent agenda, the superintendent’s personnel recommendations and an adjustment to a bonus.
Board Chair opened the meeting and the board approved the agenda and the consent agenda by voice vote after motions were made and seconded. The board then moved into an executive session to discuss personnel, confidential student information, attorney–client privileged matters and emergency response planning related to school violence.
After returning to open session the board considered and approved a motion to accept the superintendent’s personnel recommendations. The chair called the voice votes; Miss Edwards moved and Mr. Jones seconded the personnel motion and the chair announced the motion carried.
Superintendent Dr. Bossan (introduced on the agenda as the superintendent) reported that principals, staff, families and students “did very well for opening up school” and asked the board to vote on an amended resilience and public demands plan for the 2024–25 school year as presented. The transcript records a motion approving an adjustment to a bonus (moved by Miss Edwards with Mr. Jones seconding) and the chair announced the motion carried.
Dr. Bossan also thanked staff members Miss Skidmore, Miss Jones and Miss Gain for handling extra responsibilities and reminded board members that the school board association conference is scheduled for Nov. 18–20 in Greensboro. The board adjourned after approving the motions recorded in the meeting.
