Cloud County appoints Rod Michaud as Highway and Weed Administrator

The Cloud County Board of Commissioners unanimously appointed Interim Highway Administrator Rod Michaud as County Highway and Weed Administrator, effective June 16, 2024. The board approved the appointment on a motion by Commissioner Ron Copple, seconded by Commissioner Michael Cleveland.

The position carries a yearly salary of $58,000. The board recorded that the salary will increase by $5,000 once Michaud obtains the county-required Noxious Weed license. The appointment followed a short executive session called to discuss a personnel matter involving non-elected staff.

Michaud had reported operational items for the highway department earlier in the meeting, including a proposal to sell road millings to the public; the board indicated a preference to retain the millings for county use. He also reported that staff have begun spraying Johnson grass and that the county is arranging for removal of old oil barrels.

The board did not specify a timetable in the meeting minutes for Michaud to obtain the Noxious Weed license or for when the $5,000 increase would take effect beyond the stated contingency. The board will reconvene on July 1, 2024.
