At the Sept. 9 work session, the Nephi City Council approved a motion to convene into a closed meeting for deliberations and later reconvened to finish the work session and adjourn.
Councilor Travis Worwood moved to convene into a closed meeting; Councilor Skip Worwood seconded and the motion passed unanimously at 8:32 p.m., according to the minutes. During the closed session, Councilor Shari Cowan made a motion (seconded by Skip Worwood) to discuss the character and competence of an individual; that motion also passed unanimously. The council later reconvened on a motion by Skip Worwood, seconded by JD Parady; that motion passed unanimously and the meeting adjourned at 9:19 p.m.
Administrative and council updates recorded in the work session included Councilor Shari Cowan’s report on attending the Central Utah Leader Academy, Mayor Justin D. Seely’s update on installing a flagpole near Bar W Steakhouse (the city providing the flag), and the mayor’s note that USA Today correspondent Beth Weise had submitted follow-up questions and plans a second article on patriotism. Councilor JD Parady announced an open house and ribbon cutting for The Agency real estate office, and Councilor Jeramie Callaway said someone had approached him about contracting the city’s Christmas lighting and that the council should consider soliciting a bid. Council members also discussed a previously planned time-capsule opening and agreed to wait until next year to open the capsule in conjunction with a 250th-anniversary celebration of the nation’s founding.
The minutes list attendance and staff present at the meeting and were certified as the official record by Deputy Recorder Leslee Anderson.
