The Aberdeen Town Board on June 23 authorized the purchase of a new heavy rescue truck from Atlantic Coast Fire Trucks for $514,500 to replace a 24-year-old unit.
Assistant Manager Phillip Richardson briefed the board, saying the vehicle has been discussed during the last two budget cycles and that lead time to receive a completed unit is 18–24 months. “This truck was discussed the last 2 budget years and will replace a 24-year old rescue truck,” Richardson said. He added that the Town plans to declare the old truck surplus and hopes to recover some sale proceeds.
Richardson told the board that the chassis payment will be due when the chassis arrives at the manufacturer; in the staff discussion he said that amount was projected at approximately $130,000. The vendor contract text included in the meeting packet, however, states $115,000 will be due when the chassis arrives. The board approved the purchase and authorized staff to sign purchase documents by unanimous vote recorded in the minutes as 5-0.
Town officials said the $514,500 price reflects current component pricing and that staff sought to contract now to avoid additional price increases. The Town will pay the chassis and related invoiced amounts as required by the vendor contract during the build process.
What’s next: Staff will execute purchase documents and track delivery milestones; the town expects the chassis to arrive and trigger the first significant payment in early 2026, subject to vendor schedule and any change orders.
