Fulton County proclaims March 2026 Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

Fulton County commissioners on Feb. 24, 2026, unanimously approved a proclamation designating March 2026 as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month and met with local service providers and family members to sign the declaration.

The proclamation, which the board approved on a motion by Commissioner Hervey P. Hann, states: "March 2026 as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month" and commends the observance to county citizens, noting that "Fulton County becomes a better place when people with and without disabilities come together to form strong, diverse communities, and knowing we are all One World, many Abilities!" A group photograph was taken after the signing.

Attendees included representatives from Occupational Services Inc., CRI, Franklin/Fulton IDD program staff, Full Circle Residence, Lupey Behavioral Services, Fulton County Human Services, The Arc of Franklin/Fulton Counties, MH/IDD/EI staff, and family members. Human Services Director Julie Dovey and other program staff joined advocates in the meeting room; several participants registered as consumers or family members of people served by local IDD programs.

The proclamation is ceremonial and does not itself authorize funding or programmatic changes. The commissioners did not record any separate motions to allocate money or direct staff toward new programs in the transcript of the meeting. The proclamation is intended to raise awareness and recognize local providers and families serving residents with developmental disabilities.

The board approved the proclamation unanimously and moved on to other agenda items.
