McMinn County adopts budget amendments including $800,000 for paving and opioid-settlement reserve

Separately, the commission approved a Road & Bridge Fund amendment moving $800,000 from unassigned fund balance to highway maintenance (asphalt/hot mix) to assist in paving county roads. Commissioner Tim King moved for approval; Commissioner Jerry Millsaps seconded. The roll call vote matched the General Fund amendment (eight ayes, two absences).
The commission also approved multiple School Fund amendments previously adopted by the School Board. Those actions included budget entries for TN Tutoring and Innovative School Models grants, funding to replace vehicles following totaled or auctioned vans, purchase of Samsung interactive displays and three weapon-detection systems (totaling $71,159.95), and a $125,000 land purchase from the Englewood Church of Christ. Commissioners approved the school-related amendments on a motion by Commissioner Scott Cass, seconded by Commissioner Tad Simpson; roll call recorded the same eight ayes and two absences.
