Raeford council authorizes pursuing grant funding for a police K‑9 program

Major Ray Crumpler told the council Aug. 7 that a K‑9 program could bolster police operations and that grant funding opportunities exist to support startup costs. After discussion Councilman Charles Allen moved and Councilman Robert Conoly seconded a motion to pursue grant funding for a K‑9 program. The motion passed unanimously.
The council’s vote authorizes staff to seek external grant sources; no appropriation was made at the Aug. 7 meeting pending grant award and subsequent budget action. Major Crumpler will coordinate next steps with the city manager and finance staff if grant opportunities are identified.
