Raeford council approves part-time code enforcement officer amid development uptick

The Raeford City Council voted Aug. 25 to add a part-time code enforcement officer to the Planning/Code Enforcement department to address an increase in local development and inspection demand.
City Manager Dennis Baxley recommended the position, saying the city’s interlocal agreement with the county was not always sufficient because the county is also experiencing growth. The proposed job is part-time, hourly, limited to no more than 19 hours per week and does not include benefits. Manager Baxley said the new hire would work under the supervision of the Code Administrator and that the Administrator would assist in preparing the job description. The candidate could be a certified inspector or be training under a probationary certificate.
Councilwoman Mary Neil King moved to approve creating and advertising the position; Councilman Wayne Willis seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The minutes indicate staff will advertise the role; the record does not provide a hiring timeline or salary range.
