Raeford adopts ordinance adding stop signs at two intersections

The Raeford City Council adopted Ordinance #2024-08 on Nov. 4 to amend Chapter 13, Section 13.3 of the Raeford City Code to add stop signs at two intersections.
Councilwoman Jackie McLean moved to amend Chapter 13 to add the listed stop signs; Councilman Rick Sandy seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. The ordinance adds stop controls for traffic proceeding on Saunders Street at Seventh Street and Stevens Street at Seventh Street, and is effective as of Nov. 4, 2024.
The hearing on the proposed ordinance was opened beforehand by a motion from Councilman Charles Allen and seconded by Councilman Wayne Willis; a public notice was published Oct. 23 and 30, and no members of the public spoke during the hearing. The measure was then returned to regular session and adopted.
The mayor and council applauded earlier in the meeting for other recognitions, and the adopted ordinance will be placed into the city code with the mayor’s signature.
The council took the vote on the ordinance during its Nov. 4 meeting and recorded the action as adopted; no further timetable for signage installation was specified in the meeting minutes.
