Students advance to state, conservation district seeks plots and county discusses a dumpster voucher program

Several community items were discussed during the March 10 Carroll County Fiscal Court meeting.
Students from Cartmell Elementary presented two STLP projects and reported they advanced from regionals to the state competition scheduled for April 24, 2026. The court congratulated the students.
The Carroll County Conservation District asked the court for partnership and space for raised beds or ground plots to produce food accessible to the community; Magistrate Scott Nab raised maintenance concerns and Judge Wilhoite suggested the Hope Center or Senior Center might assist with upkeep.
The court reviewed a proposal for a county dumpster voucher program that would replace the free dumpster at the Road Department; under the proposed approach, residents would purchase vouchers and follow a fee schedule and guidelines. No final decision was made.
The Carroll County Arts Board relocated a planned celebration to Point Park because scaffolding around the courthouse could not be moved. The court also discussed county participation in 250th-anniversary events, including a possible veterans/community event on June 27 and noted city fireworks scheduled for July 4 at Point Park.
These items were discussed but no binding approvals or appropriations for the community proposals were recorded at this meeting.
