Pendleton County Commission proclaims National FFA Week, hears community foundation presentation and Run for It pledge request

The Pendleton County Commission, meeting Feb. 17 at the county courthouse, unanimously approved a proclamation designating Feb. 20–27, 2026 as National FFA Week after a presentation by local FFA officers.
FFA members Katie Keyser (Sentinel), Ty Hevener (Vice‑President) and Sam Eason (Treasurer) presented the proclamation; Commissioner Roger Dahmer read the proclamation and moved for approval, which passed unanimously.
Luke Taylor‑Ide, president of Future Generations University, described a past partnership between the former Pendleton County Community Foundation and the Tucker Community Foundation and identified three Pendleton County funds now held by the Tucker Community Foundation: the Pendleton Community Fund, the Pendleton County Emergency Services Fund and the Pendleton County Fast Start Fund. David Cooper, CEO, and Mike Moore, CFO, of the Tucker Community Foundation outlined the foundation’s role in managing endowed funds and providing grants and scholarships; they said the foundation manages more than 150 endowed funds across nine West Virginia counties and one county in Maryland.
Angie Pase, Development Director and RFI Event Coordinator, described the Run for It fundraising program (established 2007), said the race is scheduled for September 2026 and that registration opens April 1, 2026, and asked the Commission to pledge $2,000 to be used only for Pendleton County teams. The minutes record the request; they do not record whether the Commission approved or rejected the pledge.
Diana Mitchell, 911 Director, told commissioners she and Emergency Services Coordinator Rick Gillespie had received a plaque from the State 911 Council recognizing Accreditation Level Three. Gillespie also noted he had been in Charleston for EMS Day at the Capitol. Commissioners were told bricklayers continue work on the Courthouse Annex.
The Commission also reviewed the Sheriff’s January 2026 financial statement and employees’ January timesheets, confirmed clerk‑made appointments presented that day, approved several exonerations and ordered payments from multiple funds. Among the payments recorded were General County Fund checks Nos. 36381–36415 totaling $33,589.05 and American Rescue Plan Fund checks Nos. 157–161 totaling $24,111.00. The meeting adjourned until March 3, 2026.
