Summary
Friends of Wasatch Park told the committee they will pledge nearly $10,000 over three years for trailhead picnic tables and outlined upcoming events; the committee reported installation of initial Homestead Trail signs and that QR codes are functioning.
June Roscoe and Jenny Singer of the Friends of Wasatch Park told the Midway City Parks, Trails & Trees Committee on Jan. 27 that the volunteer group has supported park projects for decades and has pledged nearly $10,000 over the next three years to the Wasatch Trail Foundation to install picnic tables at trailheads.
They summarized past contributions including fundraising for the Tate Barn, a fishing dock and a cleaning station, and listed recurring events such as the Hit and Giggle golf tournament and the Winter Fest scheduled for March 7 at Wasatch State Park. Committee members suggested more-regular organized hikes and a newsletter to increase public engagement; the committee agreed to keep the Friends apprised of meeting minutes and City events such as Arbor Day.
Separately, the Committee reported that the first Homestead Trail signs were installed at the intersections of Main and 200 West; 200 West and Homestead Drive; Homestead Drive and Cari Lane; Homestead Drive and Warm Springs Road; and near the Kantons. Committee members said the signs’ red color increased visibility and that the QR code appears to be working. The group plans to include signage information in the upcoming City newsletter and solicit public feedback before installing additional signs.
The Friends’ pledge and the signage work were presented as routine stewardship items; the meeting’s formal motions concerned grant application recommendations and minutes approval. The meeting adjourned at 7:27 P.M.
