OSHA flags landfill violations; Scotland weighs cost-sharing for fixes and possible weekly residential pickup

Town officials informed the Board of Selectmen on Aug. 27 that OSHA conducted an inspection of the municipal landfill and identified violations that need correction. The town will share the cost of fixing the violations and work with neighboring towns on options to manage residential waste.
Hampton First Selectman Allan Cahill reported he had reached out to Casella for pricing on once-weekly residential trash pickup and to investigate opening the dump once a month; Scotland would be expected to cover roughly half the cost to address violations and changes. Officials did not have an estimate available at the meeting.
Separately, transfer station stickers are available for purchase at $25 per household from the Town Clerk on posted days. The Board did not take formal action beyond directing follow-up and exploring pricing and service options with Casella and partners.
