Scotland lays out bridge schedules and Town Hall renovation progress; financing options under review

During the May 28 meeting the board gave updates on several infrastructure projects.
First Selectman Dana Barrow said the Bass Road Bridge (North) construction is scheduled to begin February 2026 with completion expected in November 2026; Brook Road bridge work is scheduled for July 2026. The Civil Engineer has finished the line-of-sight and drainage study for the Town Hall renovation and drawings are out for cost estimates. The treasurer told the board he has been consulting with the town's CPA and bond counsel about financing options for the bridge projects and expects to run an RFP and possibly retain counsel; he said the debt may not require bonding but further steps are needed.
The board also mentioned road-safety measures in the town center — new lower speed limit signs and 'This is your speed' signs — and said a speed study will be done to evaluate whether to pursue a speed camera.
