Summary
At the Dec. 15 meeting Canton ISD heard a construction update from Berry and Clay Construction and the superintendent reported facility projects and maintenance needs, including a $48,600 quote to replace CIS coping and an estimated $26,934.82 repair for bus 33.
Stephen Berry of Berry and Clay Construction updated the Canton ISD Board of Trustees on the district's new high school and multipurpose project during the Dec. 15 meeting.
District administrators reported additional facility and maintenance items in the superintendent's report. Dr. Brian Nichols said Region 10 completed a second door audit at Canton High School with no findings and that Raptor Alert System staff training is scheduled for Jan. 5, 2026. He also said the Norcostco control system upgrade for the CHS auditorium remains on hold because materials are delayed.
Lianna Reid, the district business director, and Dr. Nichols reported that GNP Inc. Sheet Metal provided a price quote of $48,600 to remove existing sheet metal and install new 24-gauge green coping at CIS. The district is soliciting bids to replace the chain-link fence around the CHS football field. Gym floors are scheduled for waxing the week of Dec. 22. Repairs to bus 33, damaged in a November accident, were estimated at $26,934.82 and expected to be completed in January 2026.
Why it matters: Several of the items reported affect student and staff facilities and near-term district expenditures. The coping replacement and bus repair include specific dollar estimates the board may consider during future budgeting and procurement.
The construction update, and the facilities and maintenance items, were recorded in the superintendent's report and will be addressed administratively or through future board action as needed.
