Commissioners weigh dust-control bids, set work session to standardize specs

Commissioner Carl Wood said he prefers company-run application and asked that staff compare last year’s gallons used to the county’s coverage needs. Commissioner Bruce Blair said company vendors have historically been more reliable on scheduling and noted he knows the Brisbin Trucking principal and would be comfortable contacting him about performance. Steve Brisbin told commissioners he has experience with recent Cherokee County work and said he could secure product from Scotwood Industries if needed and would return to service customers if asked.
Because commissioners flagged prior inconsistencies in bid specifications (“not bidding apples for apples”), they asked vendors to detail materials and application methods so the county can compare vendors accurately. The Board scheduled a 9:30 a.m. Tuesday work session to review bid details and to ask Scotwood Industries to match any sample specifications provided by Brisbin Trucking.
No formal contract award was made during the meeting; commissioners directed staff to prepare comparative usage and specification information for the upcoming work session.
