Summary
Trustees approved multiple Measure M contracts including surveying and topography, geotechnical/fault study for a two‑story classroom building, hydrant flow testing, leased portable classrooms at several sites, and playground installations at Carver and Ballantyne Elementary Schools.
The San Marino Unified School District Board of Education on March 10 approved multiple Measure M‑funded agreements to support facility projects and early‑impact work.
Dr. Steven Choi and the measure program team presented a Measure M update, reporting notices of completion for the San Marino High School concessions project and Huntington Middle School upgrades, and introduced Jim Berlew, bond program manager, who reviewed recently completed work and early impact projects.
The board approved the following agreements (all approvals by roll call):
• AdCan Engineers — interim housing, field topography and surveying services at multiple sites, $37,200 (Measure M). • Converse Consultants — geotechnical and fault investigation for a proposed two‑story classroom building at San Marino High School, $91,500 (Measure M); staff said the study is required because of proximity to fault lines. • Link Nielsen Corporation — hydrant flow testing (four hydrants at two sites) with written report, $3,776 (Measure M). • Williams Scotsman — lease for four refurbished 24×40 portable classrooms at San Marino High School, $173,200 (18‑month term, Measure M). • Williams Scotsman — lease for three 24×40 portable classrooms and one 12×40 restroom building at Valentine Elementary, $217,700 (Measure M) to address interim housing and restroom access. • Zoom Recreation Inc. — playground equipment, shade structure and safety surfacing at Carver Elementary (ages 5–12), $552,355.13 (Measure M). • Zoom Recreation Inc. — playground equipment and surfacing at Ballantyne Elementary, $780,950.41 (Measure M).
Board members asked questions about restroom needs at Valentine, warranty and maintenance for playground structures, choices about temporary portable siting and the long‑term site plan. Dr. Choi said portables are intended as interim housing while the district completes construction and staff will provide site plans in a future meeting.
All listed Measure M agreements were approved by roll call as presented, and staff said the work will be funded from Measure M and coordinated with architects and program managers.
