SRVUSD reports midyear LCAP progress: absenteeism drops, English learner gains noted

San Ramon Valley Unified’s executive director presented the district’s midyear LCAP (Local Control and Accountability Plan) update, focusing on three district goals — deep learning and innovation, equity, and social‑emotional well‑being — and examples of actions and expenditures tied to each goal.

"One of the examples is chronic absenteeism: our baseline in 23‑24 was 9% and we’ve dropped to 7.12% in many sites," the executive director reported, citing site‑level work (Coyote Creek was highlighted as reducing chronic absenteeism from 13.7% to 7.1%). The presentation noted $450,000 budgeted for screeners (DIBELS, STAR Math and social‑emotional screeners) to support data‑driven interventions.

Trustees sought clarification about metrics that sometimes measure different things (for example, average daily attendance versus chronic absenteeism) and about how actions tie to expenditures. Staff emphasized targeted actions for student groups of focus — English learners, low‑income students and foster youth — and noted collaborations with neighboring districts on long‑term English learner reclassification strategies.

The district said more detailed budget and action updates will be brought to the board in June, including transparent reporting on actions not yet meeting targets and any unspent expenditures.
