Vernon ISD earns 'A' financial integrity rating after turnaround from 'F'

The Vernon Independent School District announced it has earned an "A" (Superior) Financial Integrity Rating, district Chief Financial Officer Clay Montgomery told the Board of Trustees at its Sept. 22 meeting.
The rating marks a notable reversal: Montgomery said the district's rating had been an "F" a couple of years earlier before improvements were made. The board approved the consent agenda, which included the August 25 minutes, the financial report and campus and district improvement plans, on a motion by Trustee Amanda Lehman and a second by Trustee Carrie Hawkins; the motion passed unanimously.
Superintendent Dr. Kermit Ward participated in the business items and introduced the financial report to trustees. The meeting packet indicated routine financial oversight items were included in the consent agenda; Montgomery specifically framed the rating as the latest Financial Integrity Rating the district received.
Trustees also approved two reappointments to the Wilbarger County Appraisal District Board of Directors during the same session. The board took no action on a separate Lone Star Governance item.
The board moved its October meeting from Oct. 20 to Oct. 13; no further financial actions were taken at the Sept. 22 meeting.
