The Nemaha County Board of Commissioners on March 25 approved a series of routine contracts, bids and land-use resolutions during its regular meeting in Auburn.
Chairman Michael Weiss and Commissioner Mike Hall voted to accept one sealed bid for repair to the District/County courtroom ceiling from Marty Bohlen Drywall for $18,560, and authorized the County Clerk to issue the payments listed in the claims docket. Both commissioners voted aye on the motion; Commissioner Bryan Mellage was recorded absent.
The board also accepted a fuel bid from Sapp Brothers for April 2026 — $4.119 for #2 clear diesel and $3.42 for regular with ethanol — by motion of Commissioner Mike Hall, seconded by Chairman Weiss. The motion carried by roll-call votes of the two members present.
On human-services funding, the board approved the Region V Systems county match required under Statute 71-808 for $14,123 for FY2026–2027 (motion by Hall; second by Weiss) and then voted to disapprove Region V Systems’ additional requested amount of $2,198 for the same fiscal year (motion by Weiss; second by Hall). Both actions passed on roll-call votes with Hall and Weiss recorded as aye and Mellage absent.
The board approved a six-month extension for Pinpoint Right of Way #2024-17 and adopted two subdivision resolutions: Resolution 2026-17 for a subdivision for Nicholas J. Snodgrass (Sec. 6, T6N R14E) and Resolution 2026-18 for a subdivision related to the Linda J. Kohrs Living Trust located west of Johnson. Each resolution was approved by motions recorded in the minutes with affirmative roll-call votes from the two commissioners present.
Buildings and grounds work approved included an annual maintenance agreement for the courthouse steam boiler with Aslan Mechanical for $1,570 and a $1,720 repair for temperature controls on three radiators, plus authorization to hire Less Mess LLC to remove four trees and stumps from the courthouse yard for $5,185. The Driveway Agreement for Darren Oestmann (632 Avenue, Johnson) was approved; the Driveway Agreement for Merrill L. Fisher (72791 638 Ave) remained tabled.
Officials also announced a Federal Fund Purchase Program deposit of $450,876.61 and confirmed that Grant #27-CB-0521 (FY2027 Community-Based Juvenile Services Aid) was approved. The board set a deadline of April 6 to accept applications for the public defender position and said applicants will be considered at the April 8 meeting.
The meeting record shows motions were generally introduced by Commissioner Mike Hall or Chairman Michael Weiss and passed by roll-call votes with the two members present voting aye. With no further business, the board adjourned at 10:32 a.m.
The complete motions, vote notation and the full claims listing are included in the official minutes filed with the Nemaha County Clerk.
