Council hears water and sewer maintenance update; lead/copper sampling distributed

Georgetown — City water and sewer staff told the council on July 1 that routine maintenance and several equipment failures are affecting operations, and that staff are moving forward with sampling and reporting.
Ed, representing the Water & Sewer crew, reported that workers cleaned injectors, decanted a digester and cleaned the trickling filter. He said the air-conditioning unit at the BPS facility is out because the compressor failed and Ames Heating and Air has been called for a repair quote. Council minutes note a very old biosulfate pump burned out; a replacement has been ordered. Overtime for the utility crew was recorded at 32 hours for June 12–25.
Staff also distributed bottles to residents for required lead-and-copper sampling and submitted the Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) to the appropriate regulatory agency, as recorded in the minutes. The recording of the CCR filing indicates the city met its reporting step for the period covered by the update.
The update drew no recorded policy action beyond approval of the report as presented. Alder discussion later in the meeting included a separate question about fluoride concentration in the municipal water system, which Clerk Jacqueline Wilson stated is 0.7 parts per million.
