Mayor Jane Houston proclaimed the week of April 2026 as Graduate Student Appreciation Week, calling on San Marcos residents, businesses and organizations to recognize graduate and professional students at Texas State University for their contributions to research, teaching and the local economy.
Following the proclamation, Andrea Golado, identified herself as dean of the Graduate College at Texas State University, thanked the city and business community for ongoing support. Golado said many graduate students "live here, work here" and that the city provides a home and place of work for doctoral and master’s students; she also named Graduate College staff who supported the appreciation week.
The proclamation noted that more than 5,000 graduate students are enrolled at Texas State University across more than 130 graduate and professional programs and encouraged local recognition through discounts and events organized by the university and businesses.
