Jurupa Valley council certifies election results and swears in two council members

The Jurupa Valley City Council on Dec. 5 adopted a resolution certifying the official results of the Nov. 5 municipal election and administered the oath of office to newly elected councilmembers Veronica Sanchez and Guillermo ("Willie") Silva.
City Clerk Ms. Wasco reported that the Riverside County Registrar of Voters completed the final canvas on Dec. 5, 2024, and certified the results, including the election of Guillermo Silva to represent Council District 2 and Veronica Sanchez to represent Council District 4. A manually requested recount in District 2 showed Silva defeated Lisa Lane by 14 votes. The council moved to adopt Resolution No. 2024-128 certifying the election results, and the motion passed.
At the podium, each newly sworn councilmember repeated the oath of office. Veronica Sanchez said, "I will bear true faith and allegiance," and later expressed gratitude for family and community support, pledging to serve with integrity. Guillermo Silva thanked volunteers and supporters and said he looked forward to "working with each other no matter what side we were on."
The council also held short recognition presentations for outgoing mayoral leadership and outgoing Councilmember Leslie Altamirano; members praised Altamirano's community engagement and presented a brief reception before reconvening the meeting.
