Covington County approves roughly $15,000 boost to roll-off container program budget

Kyle, a county solid-waste staff member, reported that the roll-off (roll off) container program exceeded earlier estimates: the county had budgeted for one container per location per month at a projected cost of about $11,000, but five months into the year usage and placement increased totals and March costs pushed the annual total to roughly $13,000 so far.
Kyle requested an additional approximately $15,000 from the solid-waste account to continue the program for the remaining seven months of the fiscal year. The commission moved and approved the budget increase by voice vote. Kyle said containers are currently located in Heath and Pleasant Home and that upcoming placements will include Red Level and Wing Volunteer Fire Department; he noted the county posts monthly locations on the commission's website under the solid-waste tab.
Commissioners asked staff to coordinate with the container company to improve pickup responsiveness when containers fill quickly.
Next steps: county staff will continue the program using the approved funds and publish future container locations on the county website.
