Council awards $184,184 contract for Mesquite wastewater maintenance building

The Mesquite City Council approved a staff recommendation on Jan. 13 to award the Mesquite Wastewater Treatment Plant maintenance building project to Trade West Construction for $184,184.
Public works reported it received five bids; three were found nonresponsive under Nevada procurement rules and two were responsive with a low responsive bid from Trade West. The responsive bids ranged from roughly $184,000 to $412,000; staff said the low responsive bidder has experience with the style of metal buildings used for municipal storage and is a local contractor working on other city projects.
Councilman Parrish and others asked whether the low price carried risk of overruns; public-works staff said they were confident in the bidder and noted the funding will come from the sewer fund. A member of the public, Rick McIntyre, praised the wastewater staff and urged support for facility improvements.
Councilman Ennis moved to award the contract to Trade West Construction; Councilwoman Gallo seconded and the motion passed. Funding will come from the sewer fund and staff said the new building will protect expensive equipment and reduce maintenance costs over time.
