A facilities presenter introduced the Taylorsville High wing concept and schedule: design completion by August, bidding in September, an anticipated November board action and construction start in December, with final completion targeted for August 2029. "So that's kind of our time frame," the presenter said. "This year, we'll be in the ground or moving dirt."
Staff also reported progress at Magna Steam Academy: rooftop solar panels are installed and the battery system that ties them together is being hooked up, with additional work planned over spring break. Multiple HVAC and commissioning items were described as near completion (Bridger Elementary chiller replacement; annex air-handling replacement at the district site; punch-list items at Cypress).
On security fencing, the presenter said seven elementary sites (one per precinct) were selected for initial, short-duration fencing work intended to close off large openings and add locked gates. The presenter said the first seven were chosen partly because they were ready to bid and had previously been noted by a state safety reviewer; the board discussed whether priority should instead be given to schools with recurrent safety incidents. The presenter said the first batch should take "maybe the longest 1 of those first 7 would be 2 or 3 weeks." He also said cost estimates came in lower than budgeted, which will inform future prioritization.
Board members asked for the underlying spreadsheet of priorities and said the district can re-order the second round if needed. The presenter cautioned that some sites require property surveys or neighbor coordination, which lengthens the timeline.
Next steps: staff will bring the proposed fencing contracts and other change orders forward on the agenda for board consideration and said they would share prioritization data with board members who requested it.
