San Dimas City Hall hosted Students in Government night during the council meeting, where high-school seniors introduced themselves, the city recognized volunteers, and students and staff discussed local civic topics.
Orlando Soto, recreation coordinator, opened the volunteer recognition and read the names of numerous volunteers the council thanked for their service to local parks and programs. Students then presented public comments and shared their perspectives on local government and community service.
Several students gave short remarks about their plans and experience participating in the event. Dave Milbrandt, a San Dimas High School government teacher, thanked the council for the opportunity and described the program’s value for civic education. Councilmembers commended the students, praised the volunteers and encouraged continued community engagement.
The meeting’s remarks also included a report on CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) volunteer contributions to wildfire recovery efforts, with student city manager Maya Vasquez reporting more than 119 hours by the San Dimas CERT team during a regional response.
The council closed the meeting with congratulations to students and volunteers and noted upcoming community events such as Little League opening day and CIF athletic achievements.
