West Hollywood opens public access production studio and expands WeHoTV community programming

Summary
WeHoTV staff described a new state-of-the-art production studio and public access program that offers training, $30 annual producer memberships for residents and programming on Spectrum channel 36.
Yvette Sotelo, the WeHoTV supervisor, told the Civic Leadership Academy cohort that the WeHoTV team produces more than 80 meetings annually and distributes government-access programming across Spectrum channel 10, YouTube, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Roku.
Sotelo described recent upgrades including AI captioning trials and a rebuilt control room rack intended to improve broadcast reliability and accessibility. She said the studio build-out expands in-house production capability to support higher-quality, short-format NewsBytes, meeting coverage and community programming.
Peter Levine, the city's public access coordinator, led a walk-and-talk showing the new public access studio and outlined how residents can get involved. Levine said residents who live in West Hollywood can become a producer member after attending an orientation and taking workshops; the producer membership fee is $30 per year, and members can reserve studio time and use Adobe editing software licenses made available in the edit bays.
Levine said channel 36 currently runs scheduled program blocks (the session cited an approximate schedule of 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday'Thursday and Democracy Now on Fridays), that most programming is "live to tape" for now, and the team is exploring increased hours if demand grows. He described the public access channel as a free-speech, community-owned platform subject to member guidelines and a code of conduct that members agree to when joining.
Staff encouraged attendees to visit the newly opened studio during the follow-up open house, asked residents to consider membership if they want to produce shows, and pointed to the public access site weho.org/whpa for more information and orientation schedules.
