Nathan Alonzo, PG&E’s local government affairs representative for the area, told the Ceres City Council that the utility has pursued cost reductions and customer‑support programs to ease affordability pressures.
Alonzo said PG&E identified nearly $1 billion in cost savings over the last two years, has reduced residential rates recently and did not file for an increase in its general rate case for the first time in 15 years. "We're hoping to have another [reduction] before the end of the year," Alonzo said.
He reviewed customer programs that reduce bills for eligible households (CARE and FERA), the federally funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), budget billing, in‑home energy audits and medical baseline protections for customers with qualifying medical needs. He also encouraged customers to use PG&E’s in‑language services and the Safety Action Center and to report concerns through the company's app.
Alonzo told the council the utility supports wildfire‑victim funds and said recent legislative action helped stabilize some market risks. He said the general rate case before the California Public Utilities Commission will be decided in coming months.
Council members thanked Alonzo; no council action followed. The presentation was informational and staff will monitor the rate‑case outcome and community outreach opportunities.
