Sponsor seeks to restore reporting for gifted programs after committee amendment repealed the statute
Sponsors told the committee an amendment had inadvertently repealed a one-line statute requiring districts to report on gifted-and-talented programming; DOE said it supported the original version but had requested removal because of capacity limits.

Representative Melissa Litchfield said HB 1370 was filed to update a short reporting requirement for gifted-and-talented programs and to reset the date for districts to send summary reports to the Department of Education. "In 2021, we just simply passed that we wanted a folder to be kept... at the Department of Education," she said, describing the change intended as a tickler to keep gifted-program practices visible.
