City wins $150,000 Texas Parks & Wildlife grant to revitalize Water Tower Park

Debbie Huffman, the city’s parks and recreation manager, announced that the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission awarded the city a grant to revitalize Water Tower Park. The grant will fund leveling the playground area, replacing surfacing, adding a rocket‑themed playground structure, resurfacing the basketball court, and installing new bike racks and benches.
Huffman said the grant covers the portion of the park the city owns; an adjoining back area is owned by a water district and was not part of the award. She told the council site visits by Texas Parks and Wildlife are expected in late March or early April and that staff will return later to request city funding to implement the project. The grant award was described in the packet as $150,000 with a matching city contribution of $150,000.
Council members congratulated staff and noted the project will move forward with required site visits and subsequent funding approvals.
