Slater Creek playground near completion; board hears park design updates and accessibility award

City staff told the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on Feb. 17 that the Slater Creek Park playground is largely installed and staff expect surfacing work to be complete around March or early April, barring weather delays.

"They are working on the surfacing and adding that level ... we're looking at, potentially, March, early April when we'll get that part," said Jeffrey, acting director of community services, describing the timeline for the new playground.

Jeffrey also reported that designs are underway for Bridal Park and Findlay Park, with Findlay reaching 100% design. He said those projects will move forward through design and into construction in coming years and will be presented to the board for recommendation to council when appropriate.

The staff update included a note on programming: Jeffrey highlighted that the city won a gold award from a Texas parks events association for its adaptive programming tied to the Easter Extravaganza. "The city of Anna won the gold award for the most accessible or adaptive program in the entire state in our classification," he said, citing the event as an example of inclusive offerings the department aims to continue.

On procurement, staff reminded the board that vendor recommendations from prior presentations will be considered through the city's competitive bidding process and that no specific vendor selection is final until procurement rules are followed.

The board thanked staff for the updates and asked staff to notify the board when a ribbon-cutting date for Slater Creek is set.
