Summary
On the County’s Veterans Corner program, U.S. Army Vietnam veteran Joe Casey reflected on West Point and Vietnam service, praised Monmouth County veteran service officer Kenneth Brenzel for assistance with VA claims, and urged veterans to use available county services.
On the recorded Veterans Corner segment, Sue Kiley, deputy director of the Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners and liaison to aging, disabilities and veteran services, interviewed U.S. Army Vietnam veteran Joe Casey about his service and experience with county veteran support.
Casey described attending West Point, serving in Alaska and later in Vietnam with a mobile advisory team supporting regional and popular force units. He recalled landing in Vietnam the day of the Apollo 11 moon landing, recited aspects of training and service, and reflected on returning home. He said many of his classmates never returned; "of the class of 580, 30 did not come home," Casey said.
Casey praised county veteran services and singled out veteran service officer Kenneth Brenzel by name for helping him through the VA disability-claims process, recommending that other veterans seek a VSO if they need help with claims. Sue Kiley closed the segment and thanked Casey for participating.
