Students showcase district after‑school enrichment options funded by ELO program

Lily Perez, identified to the board as director of expanded learning opportunities, said the programs are open to all students and funded through Expanded Learning Opportunities Program funds. “Before launching these classes, instructors asked students what they wanted to do,” Perez said, adding that offerings are designed to be “trendy, fun, and in demand.”
Students described specific site offerings: drama and cooking classes at Pop Rocks STEM Academy; garden club at La Paloma; robotics and STEAM at several sites; running and pickleball clubs at Live Oak; a tabletop role‑playing game club and BizTown simulations at San Onofre that teach personal finance and work skills. Presenters said clubs help students build teamwork, social‑emotional skills and a desire to attend school.
Board members and the superintendent praised student participation and encouraged trustees to join a group photo with the presenters after the presentation.
The board received the overview; staff said program participation and site‑level variations would continue to be reported to the board.
