The Board of Supervisors voted to adopt new extra‑help, part‑time temporary job classifications for the Probation Department intended to provide staffing flexibility at the Youth Opportunity Center.
The motion to approve item 20 was made by the member who moved the consent agenda and seconded by another supervisor; county staff said the new classifications (probation special investigator and program provider levels 1–4) will allow the county to bring on facilitators, offer stipends, and fill gaps in administrative and investigative work. County staff said the classifications will support operations at the Youth Opportunity Center.
During public comment Amy Laffner, chapter president of SEIU 1021, said, "We want to make sure that we aren't just rubber stamping extra help positions and full time jobs turning into part time jobs," and urged the board to avoid allowing extra‑help classifications to supplant full‑time roles.
Board discussion was brief; no amendments were offered. The board recorded unanimous approval among the supervisors present.
