Cliff, identified in the meeting as the county’s grant writer, told commissioners the county made its new alert system public late Friday and "so far, we have over 500 citizens registered for us." He said residents may register at the county’s online portal and that the office of emergency management can help with enrollment.
Cliff also described internal uses: county employees can create accounts so officials can place staff into groups (for example, courthouse employees) and send targeted notifications in emergencies or service disruptions by text, email or phone. When asked how staff sign-ups would be tracked, he said the list can be compared to the treasurer’s employee list to identify and group employee accounts.
Cliff gave a separate public-safety update, summarizing a regional emergency managers meeting and relaying a National Weather Service/Forest Service forecast that shows a critical fire-weather risk for about the next seven to ten days. He urged the court to note the heightened risk and took no formal action beyond encouraging registration and coordination with staff.
The court did not take formal votes on the alert system during this exchange. The county plans outreach to promote sign-ups and to coordinate internal employee registration.
