Summary
Town Manager Mark told council a recommended balanced revenue projection is expected mid-month and the recommended budget will be presented May 7; staff assume a 2.8% COLA but warned health insurance premiums might rise about 34%, and announced a pill-drop/shredding event April 25 and the spring litter sweep.
Town Manager Mark briefed the council on the town’s budget timetable and several operational items. He said staff expects to have a balanced revenue projection by mid-month and intends to present a recommended budget at the May 7 meeting; the recommended budget currently assumes a 2.8% cost-of-living adjustment for staff.
Mark warned that personnel costs and health insurance remain a major uncertainty. He said the broker presented options that could keep the current plan design but showed a roughly 34% premium increase as one scenario. “We’re getting hit with some pretty large increases,” he said, and staff are exploring level-funded or other plan designs and will return with recommendations.
Mark also summarized outreach to the congressional delegation and potential federal grant opportunities (BUILD and EDA) for greenway and library projects, and noted a congressional request for a letter supporting sewer projects on streets off Banyan Bridge Road. Finally, he reminded residents of a pill-drop and document-shredding event on April 25 from 9 a.m. to noon (police will handle medication turn-in; contractor: Shred America), encouraged participation in the spring litter sweep and discussed allowing a recovery nonprofit to set up education and naloxone information at the pill-drop.
Councilors asked clarifying questions about timing and outreach; Mark said staff will update the council as proposals and insurance options solidify.
