Satellite Beach board backs streamlined process for small easement vacations

The Satellite Beach Planning and Advisory Board voted to recommend a city code change that would simplify the process for vacating minor rights-of-way, easements and other non-fee interests.
Carl, a city staff member, told the board the proposed amendment would add a section to Division 3 to allow limited, nonmovable-structure encroachments to be handled more efficiently and, in some cases, sent directly to city council rather than coming back before the board. He told members the change is intended to lower expense for applicants, noting previous cases required certified-mail notices and other administrative costs that pushed the total near $1,000.
No members of the public spoke on the item. Board members asked clarifying questions about notification and utility coordination; Carl said applicants would still need to gather the same information from utilities and other stakeholders, but the draft narrows the cases eligible for the expedited process to avoid inadvertently eliminating existing checks and balances.
A motion to recommend the amendment as drafted was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote; the Chair announced the motion passed.
