Council adopts narrower peer group for 2026 wage study

The city administrator (speaker 2) explained the change was intended to make comparisons more analogous and to reflect cities that provide similar services. The recommended peer list reduced the broader 2021 roster to about 15–16 cities. “Those cities provide ... should be providing similar services to what the city of Hutchinson is,” the administrator said.
Council members described the update as thorough and consistent with prior practice. One member said the proposal looked “very thorough and much more kind of analogous to what we are.” The council moved and approved the updated market area by voice vote; staff will use that list for the 2026 wage and benefits study.
