Summary
Commissioners adopted proclamations recognizing Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and April as Child Abuse Prevention Month, and accepted a $32,000 heavy-trash/tire-collection grant; the senior center’s Lowe’s Community Care nomination was advanced for staff follow-up.
At its April 6 session, Walker County commissioners adopted two proclamations and took several grant-related actions.
The court approved a proclamation recognizing National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, with staff reading language that called telecommunicators "a vital link for our police officers, firefighters, and paramedics" and expressing appreciation for their service. Commissioners also approved Resolution 2026-44 from the Gulf Coast Regional 9‑1‑1 Emergency Communications District recognizing the same week in that regional system.
The court proclaimed April 2026 as National Child Abuse Prevention Month in Walker County, recognizing the work of the Walker County Child Welfare Board and CASA of Walker County to protect children.
On grant items, the court formally accepted a $32,000 two‑year heavy-trash/tire-collection grant to support precinct cleanups, and advanced a nomination submitted on behalf of the county senior center for the Lowe's Community Care grant program (award notification expected in July). Staff said that if the Lowe's grant is awarded, funds would be used to remodel the senior center (flooring, paint and accessibility improvements) between August and Dec. 15.
All proclamations and grant acceptances were approved by motion.
