Brookfield board gives staff direction to modify existing banners for Grand Boulevard streetscape opening

Trustees discussed readability, seasonality, and citywide consistency. Trustee Whitehead and others emphasized legibility for drivers and pedestrians; one trustee said she would "rather have nothing than have" banners with unreadable text. Trustee Ketchmark and several trustees favored modifying last year’s banners if the cost was minimal, noting the visual problem of poles without banners.
By consensus the board directed staff to modify last year’s banners as feasible and to prepare installations for the Aug.30 event, with a later special meeting planned to finalize long-term banner design and placement across town.
Manager Tim noted the banner decision falls within staff purchasing authority but asked for direction because of urgency tied to the grand-opening timeline. Staff will return with refined cost estimates and a recommendation for whether to pursue a longer-term design with a graphic designer.
